A Tale of 2 Codes: Security Code; Authentication Code

There seems to be some confusion surrounding Companies House web-filing. In particular, the difference between the security code and the authentication code. So to clarify:

Security Code

This is your password for Companies House web-filing. To login go here and enter your email address and security code. If you are not yet registered choose the “Register” option.

Authentication Code

This is the code for your company. After you log in, in order to carry out any kind of filing for your company you need to enter the authentication code (as well as company number and type).

If you forget either code there are clear “forgotten” options on the relevant pages.

Both codes are needed to complete web-filing for your Limited Company.
