The SIC Code: Now part of your company formation process
The Standard Industrial Classification code (or SIC code) is a code that outlines the industry that a UK limited company operates in – or is going to operate in. It used to be that SIC code information wasn’t required until a company filed a Confirmation Statement (then known as the Annual Return), however, it’s now required as part of the company formation process.
If you’re forming your company with us, we ask for you to provide your company’s SIC code straight after you enter your company’s registered office.
Here’s some information that will come in handy when selecting your SIC code/s:
- Your company can have up to four SIC codes
- If your company has already been formed but doesn’t have an SIC code, you can select one when you file a Confirmation Statement
- If you wish to change the SIC code or add a new one, you can file a Confirmation Statement
- The code for dormant companies is 99999
