Government Grants
Grants are usually provided by a government or other body and are given to a person or company so that they can meet the necessary financial requirements to engage in a specified venture.
The grant given will not usually be enough to cover the entire costs of the project as most bodies will expect the business to provide some funds or at least to source additional funds from elsewhere.
The are lots of sources available who might supply a company with a grant. Some of the more common providers are:
* Central government
* Local government
* European community funding bodies
* Charities and private initiatives
Often the grants available will be set aside for designated purposes and may relate to a particular industry, region of the country or city and be aimed even at the types of people the grants wished to help and promote.
Areas of high unemployment, parts of the country where certain industries have closed, drives to get the long term unemployed back to work, projects which develop certain skills or achievements in technology or medicine are examples of some of the broad aims a grant awarding body may have and seek to address.
